We are excited to announce our brand new hours!
KCFS is now open Monday-Friday 3-7pm, Saturday 10am-3pm & closed Sunday. (Open 2:30-4:30pm during our monthly open jam.)

Schedule: Anything Groundhog Jam, 1-2pm & Open Jam, 2-4pm
Location: K.C. Strings Concert Venue, 5842 Merriam Dr, Merriam, KS 66203(right next door to our shop)

Lessons @ KC Fret Shop

Devin Dechant is an experienced bluegrass musician who has performed with acts such as Danny Spain Gang, Cameron Keeling and The Runaway Train. Devin is a gifted musician, performing on banjo, mandolin, guitar and ukulele. Devin is now available to give lessons for all those instruments at KC Fret Shop on Monday from 3pm to 7pm. The lesson fee is $30.00 per half-hour session.

Restoration Corner
Our skilled luthiers and repair techs have over 75 years combined expertise, along with skills from high-end violin restoration. You can be assured your instrument will receive top-tier care, from simple adjustments to complex restorations.
Below is a photo of a 1924 Loar era K-4 Mandocello. We replaced a cracked end block on it. What is unique about this restoration is that all other shops would usually remove the back to do this work. This block was replaced without removing the back plate in order for the process to be minimally invasive to this vintage instrument. We lovingly refer to this type of process as laparoscopic surgery .
This additional work was also done:
- Tuner machines were replaced with high end Rubner tuners.
- Custom adjustable bridge to match the tuner’s theme and aesthetic.- Full setup and refret with gold fret wire.
Repair Consultations: You can drop off your instrument at the shop during open hours and our repairman will contact you with a repair estimate. You're also welcome to book an appointment to meet our repairman.
